Rising window

A rising window is an upward gap with no overlap between two candles: the second candle's low sits above the first candle's high. The level is the whole gap, drawn as a box.

In depth

A gap is a price range where nothing traded. Nobody bought or sold in there, which is why price often reacts when it comes back. Treat the whole space as one level instead of picking a line inside it. While the window stays open the box acts as support, and its far edge is the strongest part.

Entry distance is the practical payoff. Buying near the far edge at 100.20 puts your stop just under the box, and the reward to risk arithmetic works. Buying in the middle at 100.90 needs the same stop, so you pay more for the same idea.

Why it matters

Marking one price inside a gap leaves you early or late with no way to tell which. A box says where the reaction can start and where the idea is wrong. It also says when it is over: a candle closing below the whole box ends the window, and the box then flips to resistance.

Frequently asked questions

Same event, different word. The useful difference is the drawing: keep the whole gap as a box, not one price inside it.

No. A window closes only when a candle closes below the whole box, on the gap's own timeframe or higher.
