Support turned resistance (role flip)

Support turned resistance is a level that swaps roles. Once price closes below a support and comes back to it, the same price caps the move.

In depth

Support at 100 held twice. Then a candle closes at 99.40 and price drifts back up to 100. The buyers who defended it are gone or trapped. Some of them sell there just to get out flat. The floor is now a ceiling. It works in reverse too: resistance that is broken and held becomes support.

The retest is what makes it tradeable. A break on its own tells you little, because breaks fail all day. Price returns to the level and fails to close back inside. That is the confirmation, and it puts your entry next to your stop.

Why it matters

Without the flip you have no use for old levels. You delete them, then get surprised at the same price two days later. With it, one line does two jobs and tells you which side to trade from. It also gives a clean way to be wrong: a close back through ends the idea.

How TraderLog tracks this

TraderLog holds your levels in the day's journal entry, and puts your fills on a TradingView chart afterwards. Looking back, you can see whether you waited for the retest or entered on the break. Tags and the By tag table price the difference.

Frequently asked questions

Buyers who defended the level are now underwater. Many of them sell at their entry price when it returns, which caps the move.

Wait for the retest. Enter near the level with a stop just beyond it, and leave if price closes back through.
