Timeframe alignment
Timeframe alignment is when the charts you use agree on direction. The higher chart says up, the middle one shows the same, and you enter on the small one.
In depth
Three charts, one job each. Take the timeframe you enter on and multiply by about four for structure, then by four again for direction. A 15 minute entry gives you the hourly for structure and the 4 hour for direction. The top chart answers up, down or sideways. The middle one shows the highs and lows. The entry chart supplies timing.
The mistake worth avoiding is trading against the top chart. Sideways up there is not opposition, it is a quieter day, and holding out for all three to line up perfectly leaves you almost nothing to trade.
Why it matters
Entering on a one minute chart against an hourly picture leaves you shaken out by pullbacks the small chart cannot see. You were right for ten seconds and stopped out for twenty minutes. Checking direction on the higher chart first removes those trades before you take them.
Tag each trade with the timeframe you entered on and whether it agreed with the bigger picture. The By tag table then puts win rate and average result side by side. Results by hold time show which of those combinations you can actually sit through.
